Dining at the Craigdarroch

We serve beef, lamb and game from the local Buccleugh estate.    Residents and non-residents are welcome to dine at the Craigdarroch; at Macara's restaurant for formal dining and functions, or the lounge bar for a more relaxed atmosphere. Locally sourced ingredients are used in the freshly prepared meals. High tea is also served.

Freshly prepared meals

     
Meals served at Macara's and in the lounge bar are prepared in the Craigdarroch kitchen using, where possible, local ingredients. Our lamb and beef comes from the local Buccleugh estates - we think you will be able to taste the difference a healthy life on the Dumfriesshire hills makes to the meat!

As well as the á la carte menu, there are daily specials and a
  Fresh wild salmon is on the menu at the Craigdarroch
     

Sample menu dishes

   
The following is a sample of some of the dishes available as of October 2002. Our menu changes regularly to include seasonal produce and offer variety.

Starter: Cullen Skink (a delicate blend of smoked haddock, potatoes, onion and cream).

Main course: Supreme of Chicken Robert Burns (breast of free range chicken stuffed with haggis served on a bed of stir fried root vegetables, drizzled with Drambuie).

  Vegetarian: Thai Red Vegetable Curry (a medley of vegetables in an authentic thai sauce with cheese).

Grills: Trio of local lamb cutlets (moated with a sweet sherry, cream and shallot sauce).

Fish: Deep fried breaded haddock (served with crispy side garnish, pig tail of lemon and tartar sauce).

Salad: Cold Salmon Mayonnaise (fresh Scottish wild salmon coated with a dill and lime mayonnaise, accompanied with a crispy salad and crusty roll).
     

Wine list

   
Our extensive selection of wines has been designed to provide a balance between new and old world wines, with an emphasis on value for money. Whether you are drinking wine as an accompaniment to your meal, or simply enjoying a drink, we are sure there will be something to tempt you. Our wine list includes a variety of red, white, rosé, rioja, shiraz and sparkling wines, as well as champagne. Our house wines are reasonably priced at £8.50 a bottle.

Children's menu

Your kids will love the kids menu!   The children's menu has recently been reworked to make it healthier, with dishes such as pasta or beanburgers as well as chicken dippers and lamb twizzlers. Children's meals cost £3.95 - this includes a main meal, bottle of pop and a sundae or ice cream for dessert.
